“I’d pick fights with my partner over nothing, knowing deep down it was because I was frustrated with myself. “

"I’m Michelle, I’m 55, and for as long as I can remember I’ve been active. I’ve always enjoyed exercise in some form and during the week I stick to a healthy diet without much trouble. The routine helps me. Knowing what I’m eating and when makes it easier to stay on track.

But weekends were my downfall.

The second Friday night came around, it was like a switch flipped. I would binge eat, drink more than I wanted to, and tell myself it was fine because I had been good all week. Then Monday would arrive, I’d be back to salads and gym sessions, and the cycle would start all over again.

I stayed stuck in the same place for years. My weight didn’t change. My fitness didn’t improve. I was putting in so much effort and getting nowhere.

The worst part was that the weekends didn’t always stop at Sunday. Sometimes Monday would be a write-off too. I’d wake up telling myself “I’m not doing it this weekend” while already thinking about the food and drink I was craving. By Saturday morning I’d still be determined, but by the afternoon I’d tell myself “it’s only two days out of seven” and give in.

It became stressful. I started to think about food constantly. My relationship with my body became negative. I would punish myself with harder workouts during the week, only to fall back into the same habits once the weekend came.

By Monday I’d be in a bad mood. I’d pick fights with my partner over nothing, knowing deep down it was because I was frustrated with myself. The guilt and shame were exhausting.

One evening, scrolling on my phone, I found Clear Minds and their Binge Free Alcohol & Food package. I read stories from people who had been exactly where I was and decided I had nothing to lose by trying.

I started listening to the sessions before bed. It was strange at first, but within a couple of weeks I noticed I wasn’t thinking about the weekend in the same way. The cravings were quieter. The “I’ll start again Monday” voice wasn’t as loud.

Slowly, I stopped feeling like I was missing out when I said no to certain foods or drinks. I could enjoy myself in moderation without going overboard. My weekends no longer undid all my weekday progress.

It wasn’t just my body that felt better. My mood improved. The arguments at home stopped. I felt calmer, more in control, and proud of myself for sticking to what I wanted instead of giving in every time."

We want to thank Michelle for sharing her journey. Her story shows that you can break free from the weekend binge cycle and finally see the results your hard work deserves.
